Headshot and branding tips!
You’re investing time and money into your photoshoot, so let’s make sure you get the absolute most out of it! The key is a little planning and a clear vision for how you’ll use your images. Below are some practical tips to help you prepare and make your session a total success.

Think About How You’ll Use Your Images
Before your session, consider all the places your images will appear; think LinkedIn, your website, social media, marketing materials, speaking events, or press releases.
Knowing how you’ll use the photos helps shape what we capture during your shoot.
Identify any Specific Shots You Need
Do you need specific images such as close-ups, full-length portraits, team shots, product photos, or lifestyle images? What about orientation or crops like vertical, horizontal or square crop. If need Make a quick shot list so we can prioritize the must-haves.
Check for Company, Agency or Designer Requirements
Check in with your company, agency, or web designer to see if they have specific guidelines or needs; such as file size, background color, or orientation let me know.
Include Props That Tell Your Story
Props can add personality and context to your photos. Think of items that naturally fit your brand or daily work. Check out the blog post I write with the ultimate prop list here!
Plan Around Your Brand Colors
If you’re using the images on your website/instagram/marketing materials do you have a color palette we should stick to?
Use AI or ChatGPT for Industry-Specific Ideas
If you’re stuck on what kinds of photos might work for your line of work, try asking ChatGPT or another AI tool for inspiration. For example:
- “What kinds of photos should a life coach include in a personal branding photoshoot?”
- “Creative photo ideas for real estate agents / wellness coaches / small business owners.”
You might discover poses, props, or storytelling ideas you hadn’t thought of yet.
